Meet Yukie
Yukie learned her cooking from her mother as child and perfected her skills when she lived abroad for one year. Her passionate for Japanese cuisine and culture, led her to study cooking as a university student and she even learned the traditional Japanese tea ceremony from her mother for 5 years. She even worked at a Japanese restaurant, while living in New Zealand for a year. Yukie loves to travel and try local food, and wants to share a Japanese home cooked meal with travelers coming to Japan.

In-home meal: (1-5 guests) Yukie lives in a beautiful Japanese home with her husband, father-in-law and two sons – who would be present during dinner experiences and on weekends. Yukie will start the experience with a traditional tea ceremony, while explaining to you more about Japanese food and culture. After which you will join her for a traditional home cooked Japanese meal that may include few dishes from the region of Nagoya – ramen, spicy chicken wings, miso kushikatsu (fried pork with miso) and you will end your meal with cream zenzai (vanilla ice cream and bean paste, often eaten in Nagoya).

Cooking experience: (1-5 guests) Yukie’s father in law has a small garden on the property where he grows vegetables and herbs. Yukie will be happy to take you on a tour of the garden and even pluck some fresh herbs for the cooking class. Yukie’s open style kitchen with a huge platform is ideal for a cooking class! She always dreamt of conducting cooking classes from home and when they built the house a big kitchen was her only requirement! The cooking class will be hands on and will last for 45 minutes, in which you will learn how to make ramen from scratch.

Notes: Yukie-san does not speak perfect English so her friend Aki-san will join her as a translator and will be a part of the experience. A bottle of beer (per person) is included in the meal price.
