Marfa

Marfa is a small ranching community in the high desert of the Trans-Pecos area of western Texas. It lies between the Davis Mountains and the Big Bend National Park. Founded in the 1880s as a railroad water stop, the town was named after the wife of a railroad executive. Marfa boomed in the 1920’s and became a tourist destination across the Mexican and Texas border. Visitors can travel 9 miles east of Marfa to watch small ethereal lights floating through the night air. This mysterious event that captured national attention is called the Ghost Lights of Marfa.
