Country Walkers

Let go and take life slow on this walking tour of Ireland in the carefree countryside of County Kerry.

Mist rises over rock-strewn pastures and smoke billows from the chimneys of whitewashed cottages near Killarney. Is there a better way to greet the day? Slinging your daypack over a shoulder, you stride outside onto the country lane. A stream rushes by as you climb the green glacial valley towards the Gap of Dunloe. Come afternoon, you’ll be crossing the arched stone bridge at Lord Brandon’s Cottage for a picnic, then boating over to Ross Castle. But you’re in no hurry. This is a week for savoring tales and walking windswept beaches along the legendary Wild Atlantic Way. Breathe deeply and admire rugged Atlantic waves crashing into weather-beaten cliffs. You’re on a walking tour in Ireland, and taking things slowly is a way of life.

Also explore the star shaped formal naval station, Charles Fort, with its finely detailed and roofless 18th century barracks. Kinsale was the scene of the Spanish invasions in support of the Earls of Tyrone and Tyrconnel against Mountjoy and Carew and the site of the last decisive battle in 1602.

The Dingle Peninsula is a top destination among tourists for all its attractions and activities. The Peninsula offers sandy swimming beaches, excellent surfing, walking trails, fine dining, and a variety of festivals.  Families will enjoy visiting the Oceanworld Aquarium  and Fungie, Dingle's most famous dolphin resident. Kerry

Kerry

No matter which direction the area of North Kerry is approached, the great central spine of mountains draws the eye of the traveller like a great symphony draws an audience to a fitting climax. The relatively high mountains and narrow peninsula conjure weather patterns which change the face of the mountains, the surface of the water and the texture of the landscape by the minute. The fretted coastline and deep bays created by the mighty Atlantic play tricks with the light and produce a magical quality which intoxicates the senses.

Cork

Cork

A town of churches, bridges and pubs, Cork is best known for Blarney Castle where you are invited to kiss the famed stone to acquire the "gift of gab." St. Patrick Street, the town's main thoroughfare, is good for shopping and people watching. See the Shandon bells in St. Anne's church. Those who are willing to climb the 134 winding steps to the top of the steeple will be rewarded with a wondrous view of the city, harbor and hills.
